Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Chairman of Dubai Judicial Council, the Initiatives have grown to encompass 6 exemplary programs. They are intended to develop a well versed and experienced generation of law students from all across the GCC and to build the abilities of the employees in the judicial system through training, rehabilitation and participation in conferences and seminars, as well as through conducting legal research and studies covering all aspects of the legal and judicial fields.
The Initiatives were launched by the Scientific Moot Court Competition in two phases. The first phase included the preparation of written memos based on facts and presumptions. The second included oral pleading in the presence of members of judicial arbitration panel to improve the practical aspects of legal knowledge among law students and to motivate and encourage them to pursue careers in the judicial field.
The fact that the work of judges, prosecutors, councilors and lawyers depends on their skills and their abilities to practically implement their experiences, there was a need to train new graduates to understand the difference between the materials learnt in books, academic dictionaries, organized laws and written contracts, and the reality which needs continuous interpretations and practical training.
During the first year of the Initiatives, the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts Academy was launched as a means to train lawyers to better understand the laws applied in the courts of the centre, and to provide them with a deeper view of the knowledge and expertise of leading attorneys in the Anglo-Saxon legal system applied in the courts at the centre.
At the end of the second year, two new initiatives were introduced for the first time in the Middle East:
- Legal and Judicial Conferences and Seminars Program.
Studies and Research Program for Judicial Authority Members.
